The short version

Dankal has no accounts, no sign-in, and no analytics SDK. It asks for no permissions beyond vibration. It sends exactly one thing to a server we run: your score, plus a random ID the game made up for itself. From version 2.2, it also fetches a public release list to check for updates, without sending that ID or your score.

The one exception is advertising, which is served by Google AdMob and follows Google's own data practices.

Who we are

Dankal ("the game", "the app") is developed and published by JIN SEOK KIM ("we", "us"). You can reach us at support@jindorry.com.

What the game sends to our server

The game has a world ranking. When a run ends, the game sends one request to our ranking server so it can tell you where you placed.

WhatWhy
A random game IDSo your best score replaces your previous one instead of piling up as many entries. Explained below.
Your scoreTo rank it.
Which board (run or blood)The two modes have separate rankings.

About the random game ID

The game does not use your device ID, advertising ID, or any account identifier for the ranking. On first launch it generates a random value and stores it in the app's own private storage. That value is not derived from anything about you or your device, and we cannot use it to identify you, contact you, or link you across apps. If you delete and reinstall the game, a new one is generated and you become a new person to the ranking.

Where it goes and how long we keep it

The ranking runs on Amazon Web Services (AWS Lambda and DynamoDB) in us-east-1. Your IP address reaches AWS as a normal part of making an internet request and may appear in short-lived server logs; we do not store it in the ranking database or use it for anything. Ranking entries are kept while the ranking is running. You can ask us to delete yours — see Your choices.

When nothing is sent

Nothing is sent if the ranking server address is not configured, if the request fails, or if the run does not count (practice runs and developer-skipped runs are never submitted). The game never blocks you because a ranking request failed.

Update checks

From version 2.2, the main menu checks dankal.jindorry.com/releases.json over HTTPS for a newer public release. This request carries no ranking ID, score, or advertising identifier. As with other web requests, the hosting provider AWS receives your IP address to deliver the response. This check does not block gameplay.

Advertising

The game is free and supported by ads served through Google AdMob. There are two placements: an optional rewarded ad you may choose to watch to continue a run, and an interstitial ad between runs.

Google, as an advertising provider, may collect and process data such as your device's advertising identifier, IP address, device and OS information, and your interactions with ads, in order to serve and measure advertising. This processing is governed by Google's own policies, not ours:

On iOS, the game does not ask for Apple's App Tracking Transparency permission, because it never requests your device's advertising identifier (IDFA) for tracking. iOS ads are therefore contextual rather than personalised.

In the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, a consent form is shown before any ads are requested. If you decline, ads still appear, but they are not personalised. You may change your choice at any time from Settings → Ad privacy inside the game.

If the consent form cannot be shown at all — for example if your connection drops while the game starts — no ads are requested for that session. The game plays exactly the same, and continuing after a death is simply granted to you without an ad.

What stays only on your phone

These never leave your device and we never see them:

Deleting the app removes all of it. You can also clear your scores from the game's settings screen.

What we never collect

We do not collect your name, email address, phone number, contacts, location, photos, microphone or camera input, health data, or payment information. There are no in-app purchases. There is no account to create. We do not build advertising or behavioural profiles, and we never sell your data for money.

Google's advertising does, however, use your device's advertising identifier to choose which ads to show. Some US state privacy laws count that as “sharing” for cross-context behavioural advertising. You can switch it off — see Your choices below.

Children

Dankal depicts stylised combat and is not directed at children. It is not intended for users under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age where you live), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us with information, contact us and we will delete it.

Security and transfers

Requests to the ranking server are sent over HTTPS. Data is processed on AWS infrastructure and may be transferred to and stored in countries other than your own, including the United States. Given how little we hold — a random number and a score — the risk to you from this data is very low.

Changes

If we change this policy we will update the date at the top of this page. Significant changes will also be noted in the app's update notes.
